With the economic situation today more and more people are trying to find ways to spend less and one area people are reducing costs is in their diet. The problem is the McDonalds might cost but it is causing a obesity epidemic in our society especially with the younger people who have grown up on fast food. The pro inflammatory food is also setting up society for high blood pressure, cancer and many other disease that thrive off inflammation. In my practice I see the effects in relations to joints in your spine becoming inflammed. Not only do I have to treat the joints but know I am asking my patients what they eat on a daily basis to see if they are causing inflammation with the food they eat. It is hard to drive somewhere and not see a McDonald’s. The US ranks #1 in the number of McDonald’s restaurants per million citizens. With the low prices and fast service, the high calorie food has become a staple in the American Diet. I believe with need to get back to our beginnings and eat more lean meat, more colorful fruits and vegetables which we know are anti-inflammatory and have anti-oxidants which help fight disease. Its basic but it works, it just may take some extra time to prepare meals and to set your priorities with your budget.
